Tamarillos are native to the Andean Region of Bolivia & Argentina. It is fast growing small tree/shrub and is sometimes called a ‘Tree Tomato’ because of its egg shaped fruit. Although the outer skin is bitter, the fruit of the tamarillo is juicy and flavoursome. The best way to eat a tamarillo is to break or cut the fruit in half and scoop out the centre, similiar to eating a passionfruit. Eat the tamarillo as a snack or use in cooking. The tamarillo is rich in vitamins, A, B6, C, E, fiber and antioxidants.
